Card Stocks

Our greeting cards are available with two different card stocks as below:

• 350gsm silk card - this is a silk/satin card stock that is coated on both sided. It is possible to write on the silk coated surface, but we recommend a good ball point pen if doing so. This is usually a great option where the giver of the card is writing little to no information inside such as if they are being given out in bulk, or if there is a printed message inside
• 300gsm greeting card stock - This card stock is triple silk coated on the outside to give a great printed surface result, but the inner is left uncoated. This allows for super easy writing on the inside of the card and so is suited where the giver wishes to give a larger, more personalised written note inside.

Lamination

We are able to laminate your greeting Cards. This gives an additional layer of protection to the card as well a more luxurious feel. Lamination is not to be confused with 'encapsulation' which is when pages are encapsulated in a laminating pouch. The type of lamination used on these cards is thin and will not have any border around the edge of the sheet. So, if you want an A5 greeting card, they will be creased so that they can be folded to A5 - not A5 with a little bit extra around them!

We offer two types of lamination:

• Soft Touch lamination - a luxurious lamination that has a uniquely 'soft' feel about it.
• Gloss lamination - a gloss finish to your flyers that really allows your colours to pop!

Foiling

If you really want to stand out from the crowd, you can add metallic foil to the front and/or back of the cards. In order to have your cards foiled, we must laminate them first with a soft touch lamination. After that, we apply either a gold or silver metallic foil effect to the front and/or back of the card. 

Note that we can foil the inner section of the card but we don't normally recommend this as the inner will have to be laminated and therefore difficult to write on to. If you would like a quote for lamination and foiling on both the inner and outer sections of the card, please do get in touch.

Artwork Requirements for Gold or Silver Foiling

Metallic foil products, such as business cards, flyers and greeting cards, require a few simple steps to ensure the artwork file prints correctly. Currently, we are only capable of foiling a single side on a product, so please take that into consideration when creating your design. Foiling works best on simple and bold graphics. Thin lines are more difficult to foil, so try and avoid using script fonts and thin line weights.

Single Sided with foil.

For a single-sided print with foil, we request that you still supply a 4-page PDF to run through our system, however, you will need to insert two blank pages with only pages 1 and 3 having artwork on them.

Page 1 is the print front.

Page 2 is a blank page.

Page 3 is the foil page that will be printed on top of page 1.

Page 4 is a blank page.

Tip.

If your design requires a standard colour print on the front, and the foil page on the back, then you will need to rearrange your PDF page structure to work with this.

Vector graphics for foil.

The foil elements need to be designed using a vector graphic. We are unable to foil graphics that have been rasterised as they are not clear enough for our foiling machines to produce. Please use vector-based design software when creating your artwork.

2pt line weight.

The minimum line weight we can produce is 2pt thick. Anything that is below this will result in a patchy foil, and we will refuse to produce the product.

100% Black for foil elements.

All the foil elements must be supplied as 100% black. Our system colour checks the third page within your PDF and if it detects any other colour then it will fail to print correctly. Please make sure that the foiling elements are set to only black.

Foil Tolerance

During the production of foiling, a 3mm tolerance for movement is permissible. Achieving perfect alignment is challenging due to the hot pressing of the foil onto the print. Approximately 3mm of movement is expected during the application of the foil. Please factor this in when designing.
